shivan + charith: wedding at merchants exchange, san francisco

this wedding is long, long overdue, but i couldn’t skip  it because it’s truly one of the coolest weddings i’ve gotten to help shoot. the whole event was a feast of colors, hosted at an architectural gem, the merchants exchange building. the julia morgan ballroom on the 15th floor is a breathtaking venue to have a reception. my favorite part? the wedding party parade from the hotel to the ceremony.

many thanks to hannah suh for having me along! check her out, her work is absolutely gorgeous.

feetfirst + blogshop

last week i had the amazing opportunity to help out at feetfirst + blogshop, hosted by our labor of love, max wanger, bri emery, and angela kohler. it was such an eye-opening experience and i had a great time meeting the photographers as well as bloggers that i’ve long admired. everyone was so warm, open, and honest about their journey getting to where they are, and it really challenged me to remember why i’m doing this and to define who i want to be. i’m really excited to take my work to the next level.

here’s a peek at their beautiful studio in atwater where the workshop was held (steph pointed out to me that it was featured on apartment therapy)!

the lovely alison and zach did a great job modeling for us.

throughout the three days, we were so fortunate to have our lunches catered by heirloom. i’d been wanting to try their food for awhile since their lasagna cupcakes are all the rage in LA. on friday they brought out their newly constructed taco stand to serve gourmet pasta. the verdict? definitely the best catering i’ve ever had. i’m already coming up with excuses to host a party just so i can have those lasagna cupcakes again!

huge thanks to bri for giving me this opportunity, and margaux for being the all-around sweetest person to work with!

olive + gourmando (montreal, quebec)

one of my favorite things about pinterest? it helps me visually discover amazing little spots that i can bookmark for my travels. next time you’re traveling, skip google and use pinterest’s search for some great curated finds. it’s also a photographer’s dream for scouting cool spots to shoot. (follow me here!)

i found olive + gourmando on pinterest shortly before our east coast trip last year, and it’s easily one of my favorite places that i’ve ever eaten at. situated on the edges of cobblestoned old montreal, it’s an adorable bakery serving delicate pastries and simple food made from the freshest ingredients (the quebecois, like the french, do not mess around when it comes to food). my favorite? the housemade ricotta with roasted tomatoes and herbs. i still replicate this recipe often for breakfast at home.

more on montreal soon!

christine + tommy: engagement at lacma & santa monica

christine and i go way back. our moms have known each other since we were babies, and she was my first best friend at the age of 5. since we were kids, we’ve shared a love of all things art and design, so it’s awesome to see that we’ve both continued down that path in our careers–her in architecture and me in photography. even though our lives haven’t really crossed paths in more than a decade, i’m very blessed that we’re still able to keep in touch and share in life’s biggest moments. i’m honored to be shooting their wedding in july!

the stock family

hi guys!

guess what. i’m back. i can’t believe the last time i posted was six months ago, SO SORRY about that! i might as well have dropped off the face of the earth.

well, it’d be a bit overwhelming to give a full update on what’s been going on in my life, but suffice it to say that a lot has changed in the last year that i’ve been absent. i’m still shooting weddings (so let me know if you’re getting married!), but i’ve also since co-founded an e-commerce startup in china, where i’m living for part of the year. i’ve also been traveling a ton, brushing up on code & design, and writing for a great new lifestyle blog. in the next months, you should expect to see more posts across a wider range of topics as i share the things i’m seeing and learning, in photography, travel, design, entrepreneurship… and of course, i have tons of weddings & shoots to catch up on.

today i want to share a shoot i did awhile back with vicky, jonah, and their beautiful baby boy, hudson. i met vicky through her sister nancy, who’s one of my closest friends and most fervent supporter, when i first started shooting. vicky and jonah trusted me to do their engagement shoot back when i had no idea what i was doing, so i’m ever grateful for those first few opportunities i had. it feels really nice to come full circle. :)
